SYNOPSIS – OURS IS A NARRATIVE APPROACH TO A YOUNG MAN'S NARROW ESCAPE TO BEING SWALLOWED BY SOCIETY. It features the use of emotionless masks as a symbol of lack of identity. At the beginning of the video, our actor is pictured waking up in a graveyard. He prepares for the day, brushing his teeth and getting dressed in a cheerful and hopeful way. The audience will be able to see his excitement at being able to face another day. He will adopt a human looking mask at this point and walk out onto the street. He will appear to be social and confident as he waves and greets passers-by. His mask will break in the middle of the street, much to his horror, and sudden panic will break loose. The other members of society will drop their things and run, screaming in fear. This happens in various different scenes as we see the monotony of the life of a zombie, never making friends because he is different, although he tries so hard. He goes home after a long and dull day of being feared but instead of turning into the graveyard, he walks past into a dance studio. He briefly checks that it is empty and then begins to dance in a room on his own. He looks wonderful, and he feels the same confidence he felt at the beginning of the video. A dance teacher is walking past the studio and sees him. She is amazed and praises him. The zombie leaves, with a smile and goes home. Everybody is still in various states of panic around him, but he continues walking home, with a deliriously happy grin on his face. He gets back to the graveyard and lies down to sleep, visibly pleased with himself. We intend to inspire our intended audience through this music video since it then develops to the young man breaking out of the society he no longer wants to be a slave off. The use of ballet dancing is used to represent the idea of escape as the light and fluid movement represents the idea of destruction of stereotype in a juxtaposing manner as the movement is light and non-destructive. Our video will be located in various settings around Britain (e.g. church) to fulfill the normal and everyday theme. This is to associate to the audience so they can emotionally and physically relate to what we have filmed.
INTENDED AUDIENCE – LATE TEENS / EARLY TWENTIES. 18-21 are the target audience for this. This is the age where a lot of pressure is resting on their shoulders, with University and the careers that they want to be getting into always at the back of their minds.
WHAT YOU INTEND TO DO – WE WANT PEOPLE TO THINK ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE WATCHING. We want our target audience watching this music video so that they understand that as long as they are happy, that is all that matters. This will be achieved through the clever device of comedy. We hope that this device will relieve the tension where the scenes in the music video seem to be uncomfortable to watch. This will inevitably create an impression to the target audience that they should just do what they want to do, without anyone telling you any different.
HOW WILL YOU DO IT – THE USE OF CAMERA SHOTS TO DENOTE A MESSAGE SUBCONSCIOUSLY. We will use all the normal conventions of the camera to show the message. This is by using high angles and low angles to show the status of the camera. For example at the start, the shot type on the zombie will mainly consist of low angle shots to show how weak and unimportant he is to society. This is in contrast to at the end of the video where the shots of zombie will mainly consist of high angle shots, which shows his status and how important he now is.
WHY IS IT WORTH DOING – TO MAKE THE MUSIC VIDEO LOOK PROFESSIONAL WHILE DICTATING A POLITICAL MESSAGE TO OUR TARGET AUDIENCE.
