Rhys Byrne, Sophie Wood and Luke Higgins
Day 1 – 21st January 2014 – Our storyboard for our music video has now been completed with all of the necessary detail included. As we changed the idea for our music video mid-project, we have now had to draw up a second draft of the storyboard which illustrates our new storyline. We have also included, in depth, the wide range of camera shots and angles that we plan to use whilst filming. We have had to work closely with the music soundtrack to work out how long we want each shot to last for and to see whether the shots that we have chosen worked best with the beat in the song. The song starts relatively slow and then speeds up when we get further on in the song, this is shown in our shot decisions.
Day 2 – 22nd January 2014 – We have now completed our film plan for the music video which we are going to be working closely with when out on set filming. In the film plan, we have described all of our different locations, colour schemes, props, costumes including make-up and the characters that we plan to film. Parts of this plan may change and be developed as we start to film, but we have come up with a brief overview of what we would intend to do as seen in the plan. We have now also started to discuss when we are going to film our music video and what equipment we need to use to get the most effective shot types. This includes a tripod and a light reflector.
Day 3 - 24th January 2014 - We have now borrowed a camera, reflector, tripod and an LED light and are ready to begin filming the first pieces of footage in the graveyard tomorrow. To prepare ourselves ready for tomorrow, we have planned to meet in the morning and begin filming as early as possible to illustrate our main star waking up ready to begin his day. These scenes will be shot in the graveyard. We plan on filming lots of different footage so that we can pick and choose the most successful clips and start to edit them.
Day 4 - 25th January 2014 - The first day of filming is complete and we have successfully filmed some good footage. Today we started off filming at Church Lane in Sidcup, however, this location wasn't right for our music video as every time we began filming, a car would drive by and disrupt everything. This meant that we then ended up in another graveyard in Chislehurst, this was a lot more quieter and far more successful and we were able to film a lot more without being disrupted by people. The end results looked good and we are now ready to begin our second session of filming.
Day 5 - 26th January 2014 - Tonight we have been on set filming parts of our main star lip singing the song. We filmed this footage at Shooters Hill in the middle of a roundabout as it was a suitable spot that had the London skyline in the background. We could only film parts of this due to the weather and the public being in some shots.
Day 6 - 27th January 2014 - After re-watching our footage on the computer and gathering feedback from our peers. We have come to the conclusion that it would be more effective to have our main actor performing the role of the main star too due to the complexity of our narrative. This will make it a lot easier for our target audience to watch and understand whilst interpreting their own ideas behind things.
Day 7 - 29th January 2014 - We have now re-filmed the lip singing parts that we had previously filmed before changing around the video idea and they look relatively effective. Some parts may need to be re-filmed due to being out of focus and too dark.
Day 8 - 30th January 2014 - Today we have been filming at a graveyard in Chislehurst. Before filming, we had to ask for permission from the groundsman to make sure that it was alright for us to film a small piece of our footage. We managed to film an establishing shot of the graveyard including the sign and then our main actor/star waking up and going about his daily routine around the graveyard. We now need to watch the footage back to make sure that it is suitable for editing.
Day 9 - Saturday 1st February 2014 - We have filmed the scenes of our main star going about his day to day life in the car and going to the library today. This process took the majority of the day due to having to keep re-filming as lighting wasn't matching.
Day 10 - Sunday 2nd February 2014 - Tonight we have been back to the Shooters Hill roundabout where we were previously filming the lip syncing. We have been successful in re-filming and filming new footage. We had access to two cameras tonight and to LED lights so Rhys and Sophie were able to film our main star from different angles at the same time. This has hopefully given us a greater selection of footage to choose from when choosing what we are going to use in our final music video.
Day 11 - Monday 3rd February 2014 - Sophie and Luke are away on a school trip this week. I (Rhys) have began creating a draft digipak so that I am able to establish what conventions are most commonly used on digipaks and to look at what sort of things we could include in our final one. I have managed to complete the front cover and back cover after carrying out some research.
Day 12 - Wednesday 5th February 2014 - After re-watching some of our footage back today of the lip syncing. I (Rhys) have again found problems with the singing being out of time with the music, this is going to mean that at the weekend we are going to have to re-film the parts where I have found problems. I have also carried on with completing the draft version of the digipak today. I have decided to incorporate the idea of the half hidden face on the front cover that we have included in our initial ideas and storyboard.
Day 13 - Friday 7th February 2014 - Today we have sat down and have re-watched all of our footage as a group. We have created three folders, 'Keep', 'Maybe' and 'Delete'. This is how we are going to decide on what footage that we plan to start using.
Day 14 - Saturday 8th February 2014 -We have been out filming all day today. We began by filming the footage of our main star walking down a street getting strange looks from passers by. We then went onto film the ending part of our music video where our main star comes into contact with a girl who actually accepts him for who he is. We also encountered problems with this footage as the lighting levels seemed to be really different due to the sun.
Day 15 - Sunday 9th February 2014 - We have re-filmed the footage of lip syncing that we found to be out of time with the music. This did take a considerable amount of time due to the cold weather and passers by. However, the lip syncing is now complete and finished ready to be edited in time with the actual song.
Day 16 - Monday 10th February 2014 - Luke has began the editing process of the music video today, he is slowly getting to grips with how to use the software. Rhys and Sophie have sat down and gone through the footage filmed over the weekend to decide what is going to be used. The majority of the footage inspected seemed to be suitable when taking into account that it can be edited.
Day 17 - Tuesday 11th February 2014 - Today we have been busy filming the end of the music video in the drama studio. These are the scenes where we see our main star performing a ballet piece and letting out his anger by enjoying something that he is passionate about.
Day 18 - Thursday 13th February 2014 - Today we have carried on with editing the footage in Sony Vegas Pro. We have been thinking about possible things we could do with our footage such as split screens and colour isolation and started using YouTube to find some tutorials of how we could possibly do these things.
Day 19 - Saturday 15th February 2014 - This is the last weekend that we have to film as we need to give the camera back on Monday. Today, we are going to be back at the library re-filming our footage with some of our new ideas incorporated. We will also be filming the general public sand their reactions to our main star. This is to highlight in our video on the fact that he isn't accepted into society. We have also began taking photos for our print advertisement and digipak. We have been looking at artistic images for inspiration.
Day 20 - Sunday 16th February 2014 - Today we have just made some slight alterations to our footage. We have also continued taking pictures for our print advertisement and digipak pages.
Day 21 - Monday 17th February 2014 - Luke has carried on with editing the music video. Rhys and Sophie have began working on the digipak.
Day 22 - Wednesday 19th February 2014 - Today we have been watching our music video so far back and with the help of our peers, we have received some constructive criticism on possible things that we could change. We have taken this into account and are making alterations.
Day 23 - Thursday 20th February 2014 - Luke has carried on with making the alterations and editing the music video whilst Sophie and Rhys have been experimenting with the images on Adobe Photoshop. With the images, we have carried out the same process as we did with the music videos and sorted them into categories of most likely to least likely to use.
Day 24 - Saturday 22nd February 2014 - Today we met up and took some more photographs using our smartphones. We have been looking at Michael Angelo's art work and using it as inspiration for what we want to create. This involved painting Luke green again and using his hand in comparison with Rhys' hand.
Day 25 - Monday 24th February 2014 - Luke has carried on with the editing of the music video. He has started to add in transitions and special effects as most of the cuts have now been made with our footage. He is also looking at overlapping and slowing down/speeding up clips. Rhys and Sophie have started work on layering two images on top of each other. We are using the London City skyline layered onto a blue sky on our digipak and onto our main star on print advertisement.
Day 26 - Tuesday 25th February 2014 - Rhys has been using DaFont.com to find appropriate serif and sans serif fonts that could be used on the print advertisement and digipak. The work on the images for these two products are nearly complete, they just need some finishing touches.
Day 20 - Thursday 27th February 2014 - We have been working on our print ad and digipak in free periods and after school. This has meant that they are very near finished, we now just want to gather some feedback on them so that we can make changes before its too late.
Day 28 - Friday 28th February 2014 - Rhys and Sophie have been assisting Luke on the editing of the music video. It is nearly finished but we have now come to the conclusion that it would be a good idea to cut down the song due to its length. We have also now started colour isolating the green hand in the establishing shot and creating a split screen with our main star and the girl who he meets (his eyes and her mouth).
Day 29 - Monday 3rd March 2014 - The print advertisement and digipak have now been completed and added to our website so that we can recieve some post production feedback. The music video is in its final stages of editing, we hope to have it finished by Friday.
Day 30 - Wednesday 5th March 2014 - All three of us are continuing to work on our music video. We have been using study periods and after school time to work on it.
Day 31 - Friday 7th March 2014 - The music video has now been completed and we hope to have it up on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter by the start of next week in order to gather some constructive feedback. As this is a draft of our finished piece, any feedback given will be taken into account and added into our work.
Day 32 - Monday 10th March 2014 - The video has now been uploaded to the social networking websites. We are still waiting on feedback, this is going to help us answer our evaluation questions.
Day 33 - Wednesday 12th March 2014 - As all of our products are now complete, we have started working on our Weebly website. We are currently in the process of uploading work and organising the pages so that information is easy to find. Once we have done this, we will be working on the look of the website as we want it to be inviting and professional looking.
Day 34 - Friday 21st March 2014 - After uploading our video to YouTube, we have realised that it was not compatiable with mobile phones and therefore people were not able to access it affecting our feedback. For this reason, we have decided to re-upload out video to YouTube to help with gathering feedback.
Day 35 - Monday 24th March 2014 - Over the weekend, we have been successful in receiving feedback and are therefore making changes based on this.
Day 36 - Wednesday 26th March 2014 - We are now working on creating our Prezi's to present our evaluations in an interactive way.
Day 1 – 21st January 2014 – Our storyboard for our music video has now been completed with all of the necessary detail included.
